Walking Tennis Goes From Strength to Strength - Chais Sports

On Thursday 12th December Benson Tennis club hosted their third Walking Tennis competition. Players came from Goring Tennis club and Portcullis Tennis club. This event was expertly and enthusiastically organised by our new coach Simon Parker of CHAIS Sports. Simon has embraced Walking Tennis since he started as our coach on December 1st. attending two of our weekly sessions (Thursdays 12.00 – 2.00 weekly).

Twenty enthusiastic Walking Tennis players enjoyed a competitive challenge of preliminary rounds, quarter finals, semi-finals and finals to find the winning pair. The final was a very closely fought battle between Lynne Allen partnering Steve Gothard (BTC) versus Sultan Siddiqui and his partner Kim Rawlinson (PTC). The result went to a sudden death deuce finish with Sultan and Kim being victorious.

Cath Dale Active Communities Partnerships Officer from South Oxfordshire District Council and Vale of the White Horse District Council attended the event and was impressed with the attendance and standard of play. Cath generously funded the start of our Walking Tennis project 20 months ago and has watched and attended sessions with keen interest. Delicious refreshments were flowing throughout the tournament compliments of the Benson players.

The day before Portcullis Tennis club and Benson Tennis club sent a team of six players to Gloucester to play against Gloucestershire, Avon, Hereford and Worcester. The first county (indoor) Walking Tennis competition. All participants had a good day; Carol Phillips and Kaye Darling went from Benson, Sultan Siddiqui, Kim Rawlinson, Claire Rawlinson and Andrea Bronimann went from Portcullis. Kaye Darling BTC was runner up.
